Dear patrons, family, and friends,
After much prayerful consideration, the Georgia Mountain Players regretfully announce that 2013 will be our final year of performances. There were many things which caused us to come to this decision, not the least of which is the advancing age and health of the Players.
As you may or may not know, we recently lost one of the Players and a dear friend, Charles Robocker, to cancer. Charlie was our lobby box office manager for the better part of our 20 years. We have two more currently fighting this disease, two 10-year survivors, and several family member survivors. One of us has been recently diagnosed with the potentially debilitating auto-immune disease Lupus and others have ongoing health concerns of their own. Because most of the Players are husband-wife teams, this affects our abilities to give the time needed to both produce a show and be caregivers. We feel that our ability to continue with the quality of our shows would be severely limited beyond 2013. We believe that God would want us to put our families first, and we believe that He is saying, ”Well done, my good and faithful servants.”
Being complete and total hams, we are going to miss performing terribly, and this decision has been heart-wrenching. We never imagined in our wildest dreams that we would still be around 20 years later with a very healthy season ticket base and still selling out Smoke on the Mountain. Several years ago, we were advised to take God out of our mission statement. We didn’t. Don’t believe what people say about not letting God guide your business. We are living proof!
You know that we love each and every one of you and consider you to be a part of the Players’ family. We pray for you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your fierce and loyal support. Now, we ask just one more thing. Please continue to support us through our last season by attending our shows, if and when possible, and continuing to purchase raffle tickets for Relay for Life. We can only offer you a “rest of the season” pass as the prize for the raffle, but we would like to be able to support Relay for Life for one more year. This is going to impact them financially, so if you don’t want or need two more seats for the rest of the year, please consider just making a donation to the raffle for Relay for Life.
If you bought Three Play/Mini-Season tickets and you want to see Smoke on the Mountain one last time, please contact us by telephone at 770-536-4677 and we will be glad to assist you. If you have friends who have put off seeing it, encourage them to go this year. If you have a group needing tickets, please contact us, and we will be glad to help.
We will always be the Georgia Mountain Players, just in a different capacity. Our little band of merry-makers are too closely knit to just “let it go.” We will continue to meet regularly. We live and work in this community, so we will see you all often.
Help us to make our last season the best ever by encouraging friends to come, buying an extra ticket for someone, and just being present at our shows. This is a great season with all the humor and laughter we always provide. You will not be disappointed!
Because so many of you have begged us, and we want to give our patrons what they want, we are changing our final show to the hilarious Leading Ladies by Ken Ludwig. Cleve Brown and Mike Martin in high heels again; can you stand it? Even better, can their feet stand it?
May God bless each of you as He has so richly blessed us.
We love you all,
The Georgia Mountain Players
