See no evil. Hear no evil. Speak no evil.
Often, you will see the Georgia Mountain Players incorporate the “Three wise monkeys” into our productions. We usually try to find a place for the performers on-stage to bring in this bit of entertainment. Barring that, the monkey statues, pictured above, do just nicely.
The Three monkeys are thought to be originally from China or India and brought to Japan in the 8th century where it eventually spread to the Western World.
The “Three wise monkeys” are named thusly: Mizaru, Kikazaru, and Iwazaru.
There is sometimes a depiction of a fourth monkey, Shizaru, symbolizing “do no evil”.
